Women’s Hoops Defeated at Bucknell

Leopards strong 3-point shooting, not enough in season’s second meeting

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, 75-43, when Bucknell got out to an early lead and never looked back at Sojka Pavilion.

The Bison (19-4, 10-1 PL) shot 62 percent in the opening 10 minutes to jump out to a 16-point lead after the first quarter.

The Leopards (7-15, 2-9 PL) showed life midway through the third quarter, going on a 7-0 run that was capped off by a freshman Nicole Johnson layup through contact.

Sophomore Natalie Kucowski started the run by hitting classmate Olivia Martino slashing on the baseline and Kucowski followed with an and-one of her own to help the Leopards outscore Bucknell, 16-13 in the frame.

Kucowski led the way for the Maroon and White, scoring nine points with 11 boards. She also added to her Patriot League-leading rejections total with a pair of blocks on the afternoon.

Bucknell showed why it is the favorite in the conference as every player who saw action this afternoon found their way into the scoring column.

Freshman Jiselle Havas was a bright spot off the bench, also scoring nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond, matching her career high for 3-point field goals in a game and dishing out a career-high four assists. Martino hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points with three assists.

The Bison featured three players in double-figures as Kaitlyn Slagus, Kate Walker and Taylor O'Brien each scored 10 points.

Lafayette made its second-highest number of 3-pointers in the game, shooting 8-of-18 from deep and making as many 3-point field goals as 2-point field goals.

The Leopards return to Kirby Sports Center for a pair of contests, beginning with Army on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the annual Play4Kay Game against Loyola on Feb. 16.
