Senior Day Showdown Set for Saturday

Leopards look to knock off Colgate and take momentum to postseason play

OPENING TIP
- Lafayette closes its regular season with Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, hosting first-place Colgate at Kirby Sports Center. Prior to the game, the Leopards will honor Auston Evans and Paulius Zalys for their four-year commitment to Lafayette basketball.

- The Leopards are in the middle of a crowded Patriot League table with results on Saturday leaving Lafayette in a seed anywhere from fifth to ninth in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. A win would leave the Maroon and White with a spot at least in the top seven.

- Sophomore Justin Jaworski has gone 46 straight games with a three, the second-longest streak in the nation. Jaworski is second in the country in three-point efficiency, knocking down triples at a 49.1 percent clip.

- Colgate took the first meeting between the two sides earlier this season, winning a defensive battle by a 57-47 score in Hamilton, New York on Jan. 23.

LAST TIME OUT
Lafayette had a pair of chances to win it late on Wednesday evening at Kirby Sports Center, but sophomore Alex Petrie and junior Lukas Jarrett both had shots go off the mark as Boston U. stole an 84-82 win.

The game game was an offensive slugfest with 42 combined fouls between the two sides resulting in 47 free-throw attempts. Nine different players from the two teams finished in double-figure scoring, led by a game-high 28 from Boston U.'s Max Mahoney, who went 12-for-15 from the field in the win.

Petrie led five double-digit Leopards offensively with 19 points, followed by 17 from classmate Justin Jaworski and 15 from fellow sophomore E.J. Stephens. Senior co-captain Paulius Zalys and junior Lukas Jarrett each added 11, with Jarrett finishing two boards shy of a double-double with eight rebounds.

Lafayette came close to overcoming a particularly hot shooting night from the visitors, who made 58.3 percent of their shots on 35-of-60 from the field. The Leopards countered at 26-of-53 overall, a 49.1 percent clip, and made 10-of-27 from beyond the arc (37.0%).

THE SKINNY ON THE RAIDERS
Colgate is putting together its best season in 2018-19, reaching 20 wins the last time out for the program's first-ever 20-win season. The Raiders are currently tied with Bucknell and Lehigh for the top spot in the Patriot League standings and will look for a win Saturday to lock up the number-one overall seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.

Northwestern transfer Rapolas Ivanuaskas has been one of the better players in the Patriot League this season, averaging 16.3 points per game this season and 18.1 per outing in Patriot League play. Jordan Burns is right behind him at 16.0 points per game to go along with 5.9 assists per night, while Will Rayman adds 12.8 per contest to round out the offense. Ivanauskas also paces the Raiders on the glass at 8.2 boards per game.

LAST MEETING
Lafayette could never get its offense working on Jan. 23 in Hamilton, New York, dropping a defensive battle to Colgate, 57-47. The Leopards posted their best defensive performance of the season, but couldn't reciprocate that on the other end. Lafayette last held a D-I team under 60 points in an 81-54 win over Army at Kirby Sports Center on Feb. 7, 2018.

Sophomore guards Alex Petrie and Justin Jaworski were the lone double-figure scorers for the Maroon and White with 12 points apiece. Senior co-captain Paulius Zalys added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, while freshman Sean Good chipped in with three boards and two blocks.

Colgate's Rapolas Ivanauskas led all scorers with 13 points on the night, followed by Will Rayman with 12 for the Raiders. The glass was a difference-maker for the home side in the second half, out-boarding Lafayette 23-10 in the second 20 minutes of play.

BYE, BYE, BYE
While most teams would prefer to not play in the Patriot League Tournament First Round, that's especially true for the Maroon and White, who haven't earned a first-round bye since the 2014-15 season, a year the Leopards took home the crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. That season was the only one since the first round was instituted in the 2013-14 season that the Leopards have not had to play in the opening round.
