Lafayette Fencing Wraps up Season with NCAA Regionals

The Leopards hosted the Mid-Atlantic/South Region for second consecutive year

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette College hosted another successful NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday that featured some of the top collegiate fencers from 14 programs at the Kirby Sports Center.

Freshman Yiwen Cui had the top finish for the Leopards with a 29th in men's foil that featured victories over Steven's Ryan Edelstein and Solomon Polansky, of Johns Hopkins.

On the women's side, sophomore Juliana Sikorski was 30th in women's epee and posted wins over Penn's Katherine Sizov and Sarah Blossom, of Haverford.

Rounding out the Lafayette performances was Bora Mutis who finished 33rd in men's foil and defeated Jack Leighninger, of Haverford. Patrick Rekieta and Sean FitzGibbon finished 34th in men's saber and men's epee, respectively, and Bella Moger was 35th in women's saber.

"Every round, the competition gets more and more tough," head coach Natalie Kolasa told the Lafayette Sports Network. "There is a lot that we see we need to improve on. Keep training hard and keep workin hard. It may be the end of this season but we're still working with the kids in the offseason and see what we need to do for next season."
