Baseball Begins Doubleheader Weekends at Bucknell, Navy

The Lafayette Nine begins its crucial Patriot League stretch

Lafayette Leopards at Bucknell Bison (Saturday Doubleheader) - at Navy Midshhipmen (Sunday Doubleheader)

Looking for Back-to-Back Bells
The Leopards defended their Liberty Bell Classic Championship on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, defeating the University of Delaware for the second straight season, 7-5.

Lafayette used a five-run eighth inning, highlighted by a senior Dan Leckie home run to left field to help capture the trophy. This is the program's fourth LBC Title and second repeat, also doing so in 2007-08.

Rouse Is Streaking
Senior Spencer Rouse has already eclipsed his 2018 hits total of 29 with 36 already through 38 games this season. He has also reached base in his last 23 games, including a 2-for-3 day with a home run in the series opener at Holy Cross.

Double-Digit Ks
Sophomore JP Woodward had a career-high 10 strikeouts in the series opener at Holy Cross in just 6.0 innings of work to earn the win. It was the first time a Leopards had double-digit strikeouts in a game since John Cain '18 had 10 at Holy Cross on May 1, 2016.

Stepping Up In Conference Play
Along with his 23-game on-base streak, Rouse holds the Patriot League's third-highest batting average in conference games at .414. This comes after a slow start where he hit just .145 through the first 16 games of the season.

Starting Strong in the PL
The Leopards were off to their best start through 13 conference games since the 2011 campaign when they were 8-5 and finished Patriot League play at .500.

Road Warriors
Lafayette opened the season playing 22 games away from home before finally getting to play a home game on March 30. Only three teams in the country played more road games to open the season with the leader being Western Michigan at 31 games.

Craska's A Savior
Freshman Frank Craska impressed early on in his career on College Hill, striking out the side in his first appearance out of the Lafayette bullpen. Since then, he is 4-for-4 in save situations with two in Liberty Bell Classic games.

Born a Leopard
Junior outfielder Trey Durrah has been a part of the Lafayette baseball program for nearly his entire life. Durrah is the son of former pitching coach and current director of operations Gregg Durrah and served as the Leopards' bat boy in the early 2000s.

An Even Twenty
Head coach Joe Kinney is in his 20th season at the helm, making him the second-longest tenured head coach in the Patriot League. Former pitching coach and current director of baseball operations, Gregg Durrah, has been on Kinney's staff for each of the 20 years.

Captains by Committee
Lafayette is going with positional captains in 2019. Leading the catchers is junior Drew Jansen, the infielders is senior Spencer Rouse, the outfielders have senior Dan Leckie.  The pitchers are represented by seniors David Giusti, Kyle Johnson and Connor Jones.
