After being picked at the start of the season to finish ninth overall, the Leopards head into Wednesday's game sitting in a three-way tie for second place. They have secured a top-six seed, giving them a first-round bye.
A win over the Bucknell on Wednesday will guarantee that Lafayette will enter the tournament as either the second or third seed and will host a quarterfinal game on March 9.
A loss to Bucknell will either put Lafayette as the fourth or fifth seed. In order to claim the fourth seed and host a quarterfinal game on March 9, Lafayette either needs Boston U. and Colgate to both lose and Holy Cross to win or needs both Holy Cross and Boston U. to lose.
Lafayette will claim the fifth seed if they fall to Bucknell and Holy Cross wins and Boston U. losses or if both Colgate and Holy Cross lose.
