PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Lafayette fencing team opened the 2021-22 season by participating in the Temple Open over the weekend at the Liacouras Center.
Sophomore Amanda Manubag finished in 16th place in the women's sabre on Saturday. She had a 2-6 record in pool play and then won her first two in tableau before falling to eventual runner-up Zoe Turner of Temple. Also in women's sabre, senior Carolyn Feigeles finished 24th (6-2 record in pool play) and senior Bella Moger was 41st.
Freshman Zoe O'Connor was the Leopards top finisher in women's epee in 50th place with a 3-5 record in pool play, while senior Lily Manetta  and senior Elise Hummel placed T-62 and T-81, respectively.
Junior Danielle Long finished in 63rd place in women's foil. She had a record of 1-6 in pool play. Freshman Anna Silver finished 67th (3-5 record in pool play) and junior Abby Schlotterbeck was T-72.
In men's action on Sunday, freshman Benito Hergert delivered a strong performance with a 16th place in men's foil and was 5-3 in pool play, followed by freshman Chris Davis in 25th, 3-5 in pool play. Freshman Antoine Mannes was the top Lafayette fencer in the men's epee in 21st with a 6-3 record in pool competition. Junior Matthew Decker was 57th in men's sabre for the Leopards.
Also competing on Sunday for Lafayette were senior Sean Fitzgibbon (61st), Sophomore Riley Anderson (62nd) and junior Grahame Ung  (74th) in men's epee. Senior William Mcalpine  was T-61 in men's sabre, and freshman Amir Whitehead placed 50th in men's foil.
The Leopards are next in action on Saturday, November 6th at the Penn State Open in University Park, Pa.
