Leopard Football Brings in 15 Student-Athletes in Early Signing Period

Troxell and Leopard coaching welcome initial signees in the Class of 2027

EASTON, Pa. –  Lafayette football secured the commitments of 15 student-athletes in the early signing period. It marks the first full recruiting class for head coach John Troxell '94 and his dedicated coaching staff which took over after the early signing period in 2022.

The incoming class will get even deeper on National Signing Day on Feb. 1, 2023 as Troxell fills out the Class of 2027.

In the 2022-23 recruiting class, eight student-athletes are slotted for the offensive side of the ball, while five are tabbed for defense and two others are special teams additions.

Lafayette brings in three offensive linemen, two wide receivers, two running backs and a quarterback on offense. Defensively, three linemen will come to College Hill, joined by a linebacker and a defensive back. On special teams, the Maroon and White added a pair of kickers/punters in the 11th scholarship recruiting class in the Patriot League era.

"This is an exciting time for our program which will add 15 new scholar-athletes to the Lafayette Football Family," said Troxell, the Fred M. Kirby II '42 Head Football Coach. "While we still have more work to do prior to the second signing date, the start of this recruiting class is exceptional. We feel we signed physical players up front on both sides of the ball, while also adding players who will give us speed and explosiveness. We know this group will elevate our program over the next four years."

The early signees from the Class of 2027 come to College Hill from five states: six from New Jersey, five from Pennsylvania, two from Maryland, which has drawn increased attention during the Troxell era, and one each from Florida and North Carolina.

The Lafayette football program will kick off its spring season on March 21, culminating with the spring game on April 22 at Fisher Stadium.
