PRINCETON, N.J. The Lafayette fencing team competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships on Saturday at Princeton University. The Leopards qualified a total of eight fencers for the event, four men and four women.
Freshman
Zoe O'Connor (epee) had the best finish for both the Lafayette's women's and men's teams, winning three matches in the first round of pool play by defeating Drew, Temple and Johns Hopkins. She bowed out in the second round of pool play, finishing the day in 24
th place. In the women's sabre, senior
Bella Moger placed 28
th, defeating fencers from Johns Hopkins University and Haverford. Senior
Carolyn Feigeles finished 31
st, with a victory over Duke, and sophomore
Amanda Manubag defeated a fencer from the University of North Carolina to end the day in 33
rd place.
On the men's side, Lafayette was led by freshman
Benito Hergert (foil), who finished in 25
th place with victories over fencers from Duke and NJIT. Freshman
Chris Davis (foil) placed 30
th, defeating a fencer from Drew, and freshman
Amir Whitehead (foil) ended the day in 33
rd place, defeating a fencer from Haverford. In epee, freshmen
Antoine Mannes finished in 35
th place.
