BOSTON – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team could not overcome a slow start at No. 12/13 Boston U and fell 21-11 Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers scored in the first 10 seconds of the game and netted eight first-quarter tallies to jump in front.
Sophomore
Charlie Cunniffe scored the opening goal for Lafayette to tie the game at one in the first period and classmates
Kalman Kraham and
John Mathes each netted three goals on the afternoon.
The big bright spot for the Leopards was on the extra-man opportunity, scoring three goals on three chances and playing a clean game with no penalties. Lafayette also won the turnover battle, 21-15, forcing 12 of BU's giveaways.
Boston U grew its lead to 12-4 by halftime, but the Leopards did not go away, scoring four-unanswered goals to end the third and open the fourth quarters to get within six. However, the Terriers would answer with three-straight of their own to regain momentum.
Boston U's Vince D'Alto set a Terrier record with 14 points in the game, scoring seven goals with seven assists.
Freshman
Nick Rossi netted a pair of goals along with Cunniffe, while sophomore
Peter Lehman dished out three assists.
Lafayette will make a quick turnaround, traveling to Sacred Heart for a Tuesday afternoon contest before returning home to host Lehigh on Saturday.
