EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore
Kailee Sawai held Colgate scoreless in both of her pitching appearances on Saturday, helping lead Lafayette to a doubleheader split in Patriot League play.
Â
Sawai was the victor in game two, tossing 3.2 innings in relief while holding the Raiders without a hit in an 8-1 final.
Â
Lafayette pushed across a pair of runs in the third inning when
Julia Roman doubled to right field. That was all of the offense Lafayette would need, but the Leopards added three more in the fourth and three in the sixth. RBI-singles from
Grace Harvey (2-for-2) and
Kaya Ciccone-Cozart plated two runs in the fourth.
Â
In the sixth inning, Lafayette loaded the bases with two outs. Roman ripped a ball into the gap in right center field. The centerfielder made the running catch initially, but the rightfielder collided with her and knocked the ball loose for three runs and the 8-1.
Â
In game one, Colgate scored a run in the first inning and led throughout in a 5-0 result. It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Raiders created some distance on the scoreboard. Quinn Livesay led off with a home run and the visitors added three more in the inning, aided by a pair of Leopard errors that led to three unearned runs.
Â
Colgate starter Bailey Misken held the Leopard lineup in check in the final four innings, allowing only a lead-off single to
Harlie Bickett (2-for-3) in the bottom of the sixth inning. Misken struck out five and did not walk anyone.
Â
Kinzi Van Wyk surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits over four innings in the circle for the Leopards. Sawai threw the final three scoreless innings, scattering three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Â
The teams will close out the series with a single game on Sunday
