LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette cross country team opened its season on Friday at Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell. The Lafayette women finished second in the four-team field while the men placed third.
For the Leopard women, Becky Hartman led the way, finishing fifth overall in the 58-runner race with a final time of 14:25.8. Fellow senior Rachel Hurley finished shortly after in ninth place overall with a final time of 14:48.5. Rounding out the top five for the Leopards were freshman Sarah Pezzino (12th, 14.59.0), Emma Lorey (14th, 15.03.6) and Elizabeth Borah (15.09.9)
For the Lafayette men, Alfred Sanford placed eighth overall with a final time of 19:15.0. Just a second behind Sanford was
Emil Arangala who also finished in the top 10 at ninth in 19:16.3.
Alex Gent (11th, 19.26.0),
Titan Casey (17th, 19.32.9) and
Sean Hamilton (20th, 19.44.2) finished in the top five for the Maroon and White.
The Leopards are back in competition on Sept. 16 in a dual meet with Lehigh.
