Leopards Face Bucknell on Sunday

OPENING TIP
*    The Leopards look for their first Patriot League win of the season against Bucknell on Sunday at 2 p.m.

*    In the last meeting on Feb. 19, 2022, Bucknell defeated Lafayette in overtime 68-60. The Bison lead the all-time series 51-38.

*    Lafayette was edged by Boston U. in the conference home opener at Kirby Sports Center on Thursday. Junior forward Kayla Drummond led the Leopards with a career-high 12 points. Sophomore guard Abby Antognoli returned to the court for the first time since Dec. 3 and snared a career-high nine rebounds.

*    In Antognoli's debut after injury, the guard Lafayette in rebounds (9), assists (5) and steals (2).

*    Lafayette will host Navy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Easton. 

SCOUTING BUCKNELL
    The Bison are 4-10 (0-3 PL) on the season. They edged common opponent Cornell in overtime (65-58), and are 0-3 in Patriot League play, falling to Holy Cross (62-45), Boston U. (68-47) and Lehigh (64-51). Bucknell finished 24-10 (12-6 PL) last season, losing to American in the Patriot League Tournament final. The Bison went on to qualify for the WNIT, and defeated Fordham (73-64) in the first round but lost to Drexel (61-58) in the second.
    Sophomore guard Cecelia Collins is the leading scorer and assists leader, averaging 13.3 ppg and 3.2 apg. Senior forward Emma Shaffer is the leading rebounder with 7.6 rpg.

LAST TIME OUT
    Boston U. overtook the Leopards 66-48 in Easton on Thursday night.
    Junior Kayla Drummond led Lafayette with 12 points, shooting 75 percent (6-for-8) from the floor. Senior Jess Booth chipped in nine points, with six falling in the second quarter. In her first game back since Columbia on Dec. 3, sophomore Abby Antognoli grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
    The Terriers were led by Patriot League Player of the Week, Caitlin Weimar, who had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sydney Johnson also chipped in 11 as one of four double-digit scorers, scoring her 1,000th career point in the third quarter.
    Makayla Andrews sank four points as the Leopards kept it close in the first quarter, heading to break trailing 15-13.
    Weimer exploded for 14 points in the second session and grabbed seven rebounds, giving the Terriers the 34-27 lead at half.
    Boston U. opened the second half with a 16-5 run over the first five minutes to lead 50-32. The Terriers shot 80 percent (4-for-5) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (6-for-8) from the floor during the run. Alex Giannaros scored eight points in the run and Maggie Pina contributed five.
    The Terriers' run extended the rest of the quarter 23-7, stretching the lead to 57-34 heading into the final quarter.
    The Leopards tallied 14 points in the fourth in a 66-48 final.

ANTOGNOLI BACK ON THE COURT
    Sophomore guard Abby Antognoli returned to the court against Boston U. on Jan. 5, after suffering an injury back on Dec. 3.
    Prior to injury, Antognoli scored in double figures in five games in a row, Cornell (16), Siena (12), La Salle (19), Marist (10) and UMBC (15). The Bay Head, N.J. native had a career-high nine rebounds, five assists, five points and two steals against Boston U. in her return.

BOOTH ON A ROLL
    Senior guard Jess Booth has scored in double figures in three consecutive games, including the Leopards' first two Patriot League contests. The Columbia, Md. native put up 18 points against St. Francis Brooklyn, 11 at American and 18 at Army.
    Booth is currently averaging 9.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg and 3.9 apg. The senior ranks second in the conference in assists per game behind Lehigh's Anna Harvey (4.6).

STEPPING UP
    Makayla Andrews, Kylie Favours and Jess Booth have stepped up to fill the void of Abby Antognoli, in her absence. Favours and Booth have scored in double figures in two games that Antognoli was sidelined. On Dec. 30 at American, Andrews tied a career-high 23 points while adding seven rebounds, two steals and one block.

SCHOOL DAY GAME
    The Leopards will host a School Day Game on Jan. 18 vs. American. Lafayette College will welcome sixth and seventh graders from the Easton School District.

NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY GAME
    Lafayette College will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Jan. 28 with a clinic hosted by the Leopards' female sports teams. The clinic  will run from 11 a.m . - 1 p.m. and is free for girls in grades 3-7. Stay for pizza and the women's basketball game at 2 p.m. to celebrate NGWSD. There will be post-game autographs following the game!
