Lafayette Mourns the Loss of Coaching Legend Pat Fisher

Leopards’ all-time winningest coach won two conference championships and three coach of the year honors

Easton, Pa. – Pat Fisher, who led the Lafayette women's basketball program to multiple conference championships and earned multiple coach of the year honors in 21 seasons as head coach, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Friday, Sept. 8, at her home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton, Pa. with a calling period from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley or the Maroon Club of Lafayette College directed to women's basketball.

Just the third coach in Lafayette women's basketball history, Fisher remains Lafayette's winningest coach with a 295-284 (.509) record. She amassed four 20-win campaigns, 11 winning seasons and two league championships. She earned East Coach Conference (ECC) Coach of the Year honors in both 1985 and 1988. Lafayette brought the ECC championship to College Hill in 1985 and 1987. The Patriot League named Fisher its Coach of the Year in 1992 after the Leopards finished 19-10.

At the time of her Maroon Club Hall of Fame induction in 2007, Fisher coached all of the top 10 scorers and rebounders in the Lafayette women's basketball record book. She was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. Along with coaching, Fisher served as Lafayette's Coordinator of Women's Athletics beginning in 1982 before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in 1990. She also coached the Lafayette softball team from 1978-85 and compiled a 104-66-1 (.611) record.

Following retirement from Lafayette, Fisher served on the Easton Area School District Board of Education. She also served as a consultant for the Collegiate Athlete Educational Program, an organization that enables parents and potential student-athletes the opportunity to learn, become informed, and be provided the necessary information so that their son or daughter can attend college regardless of their social, economic, or religious situation.
