Four Leopards Receive 2023-24 All-Patriot League Laurels

Hines, Butler, Jenkins and Vander Baan earn postseason honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Devin Hines, Mark Butler, Kyle Jenkins and Justin Vander Baan earned recognition from the Patriot League on Monday afternoon, as the 2023-24 men's basketball post-season honors were announced.

Hines, Jenkins and Vander Baan were named to the All-Patriot League Third Team while Butler took home All-Rookie honors. Vander Baan was listed to the All-Defensive squad.

Junior guard Hines led the Maroon and White through the regular season by averaging 9.8 points, 1.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native totaled 284 points through his 28 starts. Hines recorded 39 points during the Cathedral Classic, a multi-team event hosted by the University of Pennsylvania from Nov. 24-26, collecting an All-Tournament Team nod. He scored a career-high 20 points in the key conference victory at American on Feb. 17.

Lafayette has had at least one player on the Patriot League All-Rookie squad since 2019. Freshman guard Butler continued that streak and earned All-Rookie Team status after totaling 225 points and starting in every game of his initial Leopard campaign. He averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds this season.

The Philadelphia, Pa. native made a last-minute steal and layup to send the Leopards to a 52-47 Patriot League opening victory against Army on Jan. 3, kickstarting a 7-0 program-tying conference run for the first time since the 2003-04 season. Butler recorded a team-high 14 points in the 69-64 victory at Colgate on Jan. 10 and was one of four players in double figures (a career-high 20 points) at Lehigh (OT2) in a team-high 43 minutes. He was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice (Jan. 15 and 20).

Senior forward Jenkins averaged 9.1 points, 1.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds following his final run in a Lafayette uniform. The co-captain drained his 1,000th point against Colgate on Feb. 19, a second-half layup in traffic, being the 49th Leopard to reach the grand plateau. Jenkins was steady on offense, posting double figures in 15 contests. He was one of two players with 10+ poins against No.25 UCLA on Nov. 10 and tallied a team-second best 15 points and eight boards in the overtime victory versus Bucknell on Jan. 20.

Junior center Vander Baan averaged a team second-best 9.3 points, 1.8 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks to close out the regular season. The co-captain Registered at least three blocks in 11 games on his way to a conference best 67 stops, good for eighth in the country. In just two years wearing the Maroon and White, he has quickly climbed the program ranks for career blocks, sitting in sixth place with 104. The Northbridge, Mass. native netted a career-high 28 points at Penn. on Nov. 24, shooting 13-of-22 from the floor. He also blocked a career-high six shots versus Navy (Jan. 13) on his way to Patriot League Player of the Week on Jan. 15.

The Leopards open up postseason play on Thursday night, hosting rival Lehigh in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament at 7 p.m. inside Kirby Sports Center.
