Women's Basketball Prepares to Host American for Pride Game

KEEP 'EM COMING
    The Leopards are shooting 77.9 percent from the foul line this season, which ranks second amongst their Patriot League competitors. Sophomore guard Teresa Kiewiet paces the Maroon and White through 22 games, shooting 90.9 percent.

SCOUTING AMERICAN
    The Eagles finished their non-conference slate at 0-11 and they dropped their last league game 67-52 vs. Lehigh (2/8) on Saturday.  American sits at 10th place in the conference (1-10) and head coach Tiffany Coll is in her third season at the helm.
    Wednesday marks the 59th meeting, between the Leopards and Eagles after American captured a 54-52 victory in their first meeting of the season in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 29.
    Cecilia Kay (24) and Anna Rescifina (11) combined for 35 points vs. Lehigh. Kay's 24 points in 39 minutes were a career-high for the freshman. Kay leads American in scoring (11.6 ppg) and Laura Nogues is second on the team in points (7.8). Kay ranks third in the Patriot League in rebounds (8.5 rpg) and second in blocks (1.5 bpg).
    American shot 40.4 percent from the floor, 12.5 percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe in its loss to Lehigh.  American ranks 10th in the conference in scoring (54.0 ppg) and 10th in defensive rating, allowing its opponents 70.6 points per game.  As a team on the season, the Eagles are shooting 35.3 percent from the field (10th in the conference).

LAST TIME OUT
    Lafayette took on Navy on Feb. 8 and the Leopards emerged victorious in a nail-biting 61-60 decision. Guards Abby Antognoli (14), Sauda Ntaconayigize (10) and forward Tasha Chudy (15) combined for 39 points in the road win. Chudy recorded career highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds en route to her first career double double.

MINUTES INCREASE
    Freshman guard Talia Zurinskas is averaging 16.3 minutes per game over her last seven games, as she's emerged as a key player off the bench for the Leopards. On Feb. 8 vs. Colgate, the Allentown, Pa. native tallied a career-high 13 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor.

MAKING HISTORY
    The Leopards' home contest vs. No. 6 Notre Dame (Nov. 17) was the first time Lafayette women's basketball hosted a nationally-ranked opponent within the 
Patriot League era.

PINK OUT/NGWSD
    Lafayette women's basketball kicked off February with its annual Pink Out/National Girls and Women in Sports Day Game on Feb.1. Members of the Kay Yow Foundation were in attendance as the Leopards continue to show their annual support for cancer research. 

UP NEXT
    Lafayette hits the road on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup in Lewisburg against Bucknell.

SCHOOL DAY GAME
    On Jan. 15 Lafayette women's basketball hosted its fifth-annual School Day Game. More than 1,100 fifth and sixth grade students from the Easton Area School District came to Kirby Sports Center for a day of fun and to support the Leopards take on Army.

ANTOGNOLI AVERAGES
    On her way to her second consecutive All-Patriot League Third-Team selection, senior guard Abby Antognoli was a focal point of the Leopards' offense last season. The Economics major averages 12.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.8 apg and is ranked second in the conference in assists and eighth in scoring.
      
JUNIOR DUO
    Junior guards Kay Donahue and Sauda Ntaconayigize have been constant threats from all over the floor this season, shooting 39.1 and 39.3 percent respectively. Donahue has been a main option on offense through Lafayette's first 22 games, but Ntaconayigize can also score the ball, averaging 7.7 points per outing. Both Leopards average 25 minutes or better per contest.

1,000-POINT SCORER
    Program history was made on Dec. 1 in the team's game at Monmouth, as 
senior guard Abby Antognoli became the Leopards' 21st 1,000 career-points scorer with her fifth field goal (in the fourth quarter).

STARTING FIVE
    Lafayette used the same starting lineup for 10-straight games before sophomore guard Teresa Kiewiet broke into the lineup at home versus Army (1/15). Guards Abby Antognoli, Halee Smith, Kay Donahue, Sauda Ntaconayigize and forward Tasha Chudy have been the mainstays in the lineup for the majority of the season. Chudy got her first career starting nod versus St. Francis and has started every game since. Donahue broke into Damon-Olson's lineup against Notre Dame (11/17) and finished the day with a career-high 18 points versus the nationally-ranked foe. The Leopards have used the same lineup in their last seven games.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
    Feb. 22 is Alumni Day vs. Lehigh and Senior Day will take place on Mar. 1 against Boston U. 

EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS
    Lafayette's athletic programs stood out among the nation's best last fall in the NCAA's Division I annual Graduation Success Rate (GSR) release. College Hill claimed a 97 percent GSR overall for the second straight year based on the 19 sports measured while 16 Leopard teams, including women's basketball, achieved a graduation success rate of 100 percent.
