Leopards Drop PL Semifinal Matchup 12-10 Against Boston U.

Freshman Nicholas Blalock registered a career-high five goals

Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team lost 12-10 in the Patriot League Tournament semifinal to Boston U. on Friday evening at Michie Stadium.

The Leopards were first to score, after sophomore Billy Irish tallied his second goal of the season off a feed from freshman Joshua Heaney. The Terriers responded a minute later (8:57) through Tyler Fox to knot the game at one apiece. With 3:58 to go in the quarter, freshman Nicholas Blalock registered his first of five goals, which set a new career high for the Rumson, N.J. native. Patriot League Rookie of the Year Timothy Shannehan scored at the 2:22 mark and neither side could be separated after 15 minutes.

Blalock and classmate Joseph Duggan recorded back-to-back goals to start the second period, which granted the Leopards a 4-2 lead. The next nine minutes of action were a war in midfield, but Boston U's Zach Travaglini found the back of the net with three minutes left in the half. The Terriers netted another moments later (2:33) right before Blalock completed his first-half hat trick, handing the Maroon and White a 5-4 advantage at the half.

Boston U. notched two quick goals to get the third quarter underway, but Lafayette wouldn't go away. With 9:43 to go in the quarter Blalock rifled home his fourth of the evening to tie the contest at six goals apiece. Andrew Pape restored the Terriers' one-goal lead at the 4:26 mark thanks to an assist by Fox. Time was winding down in the period as Lafayette held the final possession. With five seconds to go, Blalock scored his 21st goal of the year and the game was tied 7-7 with one period left to play.

Sargent put the Leopards back in front to start the fourth quarter (13:01), after beating his man to the cage and dispatching his shot on goal. Boston U. responded with five unanswered goals and took a 12-8 lead with 5:43 remaining. Duggan and DiBattista both scored for Lafayette down the stretch, but the Terriers' clock management led them to a 12-10 victory.

Lafayette concluded the season with a 10-6 (5-3 in PL) overall record.
