Lafayette Field Hockey Blanks Rutgers, 1-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's field hockey team broke its two game losing streak Tuesday with a 1-0 non-conference win over Rutgers under the lights of the Rutgers Stadium Complex.

The Leopards (7-9) outshot the Scarlet Knights 14-6 in the contest but the teams were deadlocked at zero until freshman Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) scored the game's only goal with 6:30 remaining.

Junior goalkeeper Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) recorded her second shutout of the season but had help from the defense in front of her as she needed to make only one save on the night.

Rutgers (7-9) managed only one shot on goal in the first 35 minutes of play and was busy on defense for much of the contest as Lafayette forced senior goalkeeper Abby Joseph into 11 saves.

Lafayette's next game is on Saturday at rival Lehigh at 12:00 p.m. The Leopards need a win to advance to the Patriot League Tournament at Holy Cross Nov. 3-4.
