Lafayette Leads All-Patriot League Men's Soccer Team

Nov. 5, 1999

Lafayette College seniors Jake Ross (Pottersville, NJ/Pingry School), Leidy Klotz (Cortland, NY/Homer Senior) and Tim Wenger (Delmar, NJ/Bethlehem Catholic) and junior Craig Schroeder (Cranbury, NJ/Pingry School) have been selected to the 1999 All-Patriot League Men's Soccer Team.

Ross has been the Leopards' offensive leader all season, scoring a team-high eight goals (including two game-winners) while passing for four assists for a total of 20 points from the forward position. In addition to being the Leopards' top scorer, Ross is the second-leading scorer in the Patriot League. The selection is Ross' second-straight to the All-Patriot League First Team.

Soccer honors have become commonplace for Klotz, following a 1998 season in which the midfielder was selected All-Patriot League, was the Patriot League Tournament MVP and earned NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honors. Klotz is currently second on the team in scoring with 15 points arriving on four goals and a team-high seven assists.

Wenger's contributions may go wholly unnoticed by the occasional fan, but the Patriot League coaches saw fit to place him on the All-Patriot League First Team. Wenger has scored one goal this season, but his emphasis is not scoring but rather keeping his opponent from scoring. Wenger anchors the Lafayette defense with his one-on-one stopping ability and has helped keep the team's goals against average at 1.35.

The only non-senior in the group, Schroeder has continued his solid play in goal from a year ago. He has started 14 of the Leopards' 16 games, sporting a 1.22 goals against average and a .742 save percentage. The honor is the second-straight for the Lafayette goalie.

Lafayette's season is far from over, as it is one of four Patriot League schools which will participate in the Patriot League Tournament on Saturday in Worcester, MA. Lafayette will play host and No. 1 seed Holy Cross at 1 p.m., with No. 2 seed Navy facing No. 3 Colgate at 10 a.m.

The winner of the Patriot League Tournament will host the Northeast Conference Tournament Champion on Nov. 13 or 14 in a play-in game for the NCAA Tournament which begins on Nov. 17.
