May 4, 1999

Freshman attack Heather McClelland (Springfield,VA/Kimball Union) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year, and headlines six Lafayette women's lacrosse players who were named to All-Patriot League Teams on May 4.

Kellee Salber (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) got her second consecutive first-team nod, while defenseman Erin Carney (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) was named to her first All-Patriot League squad.

In addition to her Rookie of the Year honors, McClelland was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, the only freshman to be named to either squad. Lafayette juniors, attack Olivia Long (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown), mid-fielder Kim Stone (Newtown, PA/George School), and defenseman Loren Berkheimer (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) were also named to the second team.

Salber, a tri-captain and preseason honorable mention All-American by College Lacrosse USA, started 14 games before having her nose broken in the Lehigh game on April 20. She missed the final two games of the season after surgery, but not before she racked up 23 goals and six assists, and led the team in groundballs with 48.

Carney, a stay at home defensemen, started all 16 contests and scored the first goal of her career in the 18-0 Leopard rout of Drexel on April 29.

McClelland was named Offensive Player of the Week on April 6, and ECAC Rookie of the Week on April 12, and ended up leading the team in points with 55 (27 goals and 28 assists) in her first collegiate season. She was last ranked 13th in the nation for assists with an average of 1.75 per contest, and had four game-winning goals in 1999.

Long, the team's top goal-scorer with 43 tallies, was third on the team in overall points with 47 in 16 starts.

Stone, named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on April 12 after tallying five goals in a 12-11 win over Holy Cross, was fourth on the team in overall scoring with 21 goals and 10 assists in 16 starts.

Berkheimer, also a preseason honorable mention All-American by College Lacrosse USA, missed the first eight games of the season with a fractured ankle but was still named to her third straight all-league squad after scoring four goals and adding two assists in six starts.

The Leopards, winners of seven of the nine Patriot League Championships in women's lacrosse, closed out the season going 10-6 overall, 3-2 in the Patriot League.
