A heroic five-goal effort from junior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, MA/Governor Dummer) saw the Lafayette men's lacrosse
team come up two goals short (9-7) to Colgate in Patriot League action on Saturday.
Colgate went on a 4-0 run to open the game with goals by Scott Herbst (14:05) , John Menton (12:14), Parker Gibson (11:04)
and Matt Cihon (10:45).
After that 4-0 first quarter, the Red Raiders scored the first two goals of the second quarter with a man-up score by James Franke
at14:22 and then a goal by Brendan Sandel at 7:02.
Lafayette mounted a comeback, scoring three straight goals and four of the next five goals to pull within 7-4 at halftime. Bromby
started the rally, scoring his first of five goals on the afternoon at 6:14 in the second. Junior Kevin Angelis
(Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) scored at 5:32 and then Bromby scored the Leopards final two goals of the quarter
off feeds from juniors Matt Belson (Hull, MA/Cohasset) and Morgan Battle (Princeton, NJ/The Hun School).
Colgate (3-6 overall, 2-0 in the Patriot League) scored the only two goals in the third quarter from Ryan Asher and Danny Grady at 9:03 and 6:14, respectively. Grady's goal was another man-up goal for the Red Raiders.
Lafayette made a late charge in the final period by shutting down Colgate's offense and forcing five of Colgate's 23 turnovers
in the game and scoring three goals in the first seven minutes of the quarter to cut the lead to 9-7.
Bromby added his fourth and fifth goals at 12:13 and 9:01 and then junior Drew Stotler (Westfield, NJ/Westfield)
scored an unassisted goal at 7:48. However, the Colgate defense managed to thwart the remaining Lafayette offensive
chances including a man-up chance with 30 seconds to go in the game.
Colgate's Paul Abrahimzadeh stopped nine shots on the afternoon improving to 3-6 on the season, while junior Duncan
Woodard (New Canaan, CT/St. George's) recorded 14 saves in the loss for the Leopards.
Lafayette (2-5 overall, 0-3 in the Patriot League) returns to action on Tuesday at Marist. Opening faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
