Lafayette Falls 8-1 in Opening Game of Doubleheader

EASTON, PA - In the opening game, Bucknell's Ed Soley threw a complete game and stymied the Lafayette offense, as the Bison went on to an 8-1 win.

After two scoreless innings, Bucknell got its offense going. Frank Fresconi singled to center and brought home two runs, both unearned. Bucknell added a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Tyler Prout singled home Larry Scheetz in the fourth and Eric Fishman doubled home Scheetz in the fifth.

Lafayette scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Jason Carlough (Clinton, CT/Morgan School) led off the frame with a single and freshman Russ Giglio (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge) followed that with a double. D'Angelis brought home Carlough with a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.

Bucknell closed out the game with two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Prout and DiBonaventura each connected for solo home runs in the sixth. In the seventh, Prout struck again with a two-run double to put the final at 8-1.

Soley finished out his complete game win with eight strikeouts, while scattering six hits. Sophomore Kevin Swords (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) took the loss, having pitched 4 2/3 innings while allowing four runs (one earned) and nine hits.

Lafayette's record is 4-12 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League. Bucknell is 9-12 overall, 1-0 in Patriot League play.
