April 1, 2000

Box Score

EASTON, PA - Senior Bob Osipower (Quakertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) connected for a two-run homer in the fifth inning to propel Lafayette to a 6-5 win over Bucknell in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The victory earned Lafayette the split on the day, as the Leopards dropped the opener 8-1 in Patriot League.

Sophomore Vince D'Angelis (Montvale, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) led off the second game with a sign of things to come for Lafayette as he cracked a solo shot to even the score at 1-1. Lafayette scored two more runs in the third, thanks to the timely hitting of Osipower who singled in D'Angelis and sophomore Tye Gonser (The Dalles, OR/The Dalles).

The Bison responded in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Frank Fresconi dealt the biggest blow of the inning with a one-out double to bring in two runs. Kevin Eiben, who singled in the Bison's first run of the inning, scored on the play.

In the bottom of the inning, D'Angelis walked to lead off and advanced to second on a Gonser groundout. Junior Ian Burley (Nazereth, PA/Notre Dame) promptly singled him home. The next batter up, Osipower, homered to left field to give the Leopards a 6-4 lead.

Bucknell scored its fifth and final run in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Ian Joseph, but the comeback bid fell short. Osipower finished the day with four RBI, while leadoff hitter D'Angelis ended with a 2-2 day with three runs scored.

Junior Ross Butler (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) got the win, going 2 2/3 innings while allowing just one hit to the 10 batters he faced. Chris Lackett took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 while giving up six runs, all earned.

Lafayette's record is 5-12 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League. Bucknell is 9-13 overall, 1-1 in Patriot League play. The two teams return to action tomorrow for another Patriot League doubleheader. Opening pitch is scheduled for Noon at Metzgar Fields.
