Lafayette outscored Drexel 3-0 in both the second and fourth quarters en route to a 7-3 win in men's lacrosse action on Saturday. The win assured Lafayette of a .500 season and is the program's most wins since 1984 when Lafayette went 9-4.
Drexel got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Joe Iannarino at 12:53. Lafayette tied the game four minutes later when Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) scored his 30th goal of the season at 8:26. Drexel regained the lead less than a minute later as Jeff Spano took an Iannarino pass and put it in the back of the net for a 2-1 Drexel lead that held up through the end of the first quarter.
The Leopards seized the momentum in the second quarter. Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) tied the game at 2-2 five minutes into the quarter. The Leopards took the lead for good when Ryan Kubie (Westport, Conn./Staples) took a Bromby pass for a score at 4:08. Forty-eight seconds later Drew Stotler (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) gave Lafayette a 4-2 lead with his 13th goal of the season.
In the third quarter, Drexel's Spano cut the 'Pards lead to one (4-3) when he scored his second goal of the game with :38 seconds remaining in the period.
The Leopards' responded in the final quarter, cranking out three more goals from Battle (7:50),Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) and Stotler (4:30) to cap the 7-3 victory.
Junior Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's) had nine saves in goal for Lafayette, while his Drexel (1-10) counterpart Jordie Olivella managed five saves in the loss.
Lafayette (7-6) finishes off the season by hosting Patriot League foe Army on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Metzgar Fields.
