EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Marko Glavic's two-yard pass to Phil Yarberough with two seconds left gave Lafayette a 24-17 win over Princeton and earned first-year head coach Frank Tavani his first career win on Saturday at Fisher Field.

Glavic made his freshman debut at quarterback in impressive style, completing 18 passes for 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns after replacing starting quarterback Harry Armstrong in the second quarter.

In the first quarter, the Princeton defense got the Tigers on the board, as Chris Roser-Jones intercepted an Armstrong pass and returned it 33 yards for the score at 9:45. Roser-Jones finished with two picks on the day, later intercepting Armstrong at 5:23 in the second quarter.

The Leopards (1-1) got on the scoreboard in the second quarter, as Martin Brecht capped a 13-play, 39-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal at 10:04.

In the third quarter, Lafayette scored in quick fashion, needing just 1:29 and five plays to cover 74 yards. Glavic hit Andrew May for a 66-yard touchdown pass that gave Lafayette the 10-7 lead.

Princeton evened the score at 10-10 with 9:14 remaining in the fourth, as kicker Taylor Northrop booted in a 37-yard field goal following two previous misses from 44 and 25 yards.

On the next drive, Lafayette cranked out five first downs behind the strong arm of Glavic and the powerful running of Bill Stocker. Stocker finished off the scoring drive with a 32-yard touchdown romp that put the Leopards up 17-10 at 5:01. The sophomore carried for 94 yards following a 105-yard performance vs. Towson in the Leopards' season-opener.

Princeton fought back on the next possession behind the arm of quarterback Tommy Crenshaw. He completed a key 4th-and-10 try to Nathan Lindell for 15 yards to keep the drive going. A 17-yard pass to George Citovic set up a first and goal situation. Following a reception for a loss, Crenshaw took the snap and ran a keeper eight yards around the right end to tie the game at 17-17 with 45 seconds remaining.

On the kickoff, Lafayette took over on the 20-yard line following a touchback. A first-down toss to Jim Dietz, and two incompletions later, the freshman Glavic was faced with a 3rd-and-10 situation. He completed a 55-yard strike to Phil Yarberough to set Lafayette up with a first down at the Princeton 15-yard line.

On the next play, Stocker broke loose for a 13-yard run before he was dragged down at the two-yard line. Lafayette called its final timeout with nine seconds remaining. Glavic came out of the huddle and threw a fade pass to Yarberough who outjumped Princeton defender Paul Simbi.

Yarberough finished with 11 catches for 119 yards, including the game-winning score and the 66-yard reception that moved Lafayette into Princeton territory.

"I'm happy and proud of these young men," Tavani said in the post-game press conference. "We have now become a team. We have learned to play together and how to play to win. There will be no more conservative games. We will play to win."

The Lafayette win was the Leopards' first win ever vs. Princeton at Fisher Field field in seven attempts and the program's first victory in the series since 1982.

Lafayette will return to action on Sept. 23 when it travels to Pennsylvania. Princeton (0-1) will face Lehigh.
