EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Two-time Patriot League Player of the Week Frank Barr scored a game-high 23 points and Lafayette shot 60 percent from the floor but it was not enough to help the Leopards get past Pennsylvania as they fell 82-74 at the Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette (6-10) kept the contest with its Ivy League opponent close, never allowing the Quakers a chance to blow the game open and trailing by only five, 39-34, at halftime. Senior co-captain Tyson Whitfield scored 10 of his 14 points in the opening period, including two three-pointers.
But 10 second half points by Penn's Koko Archibong helped put the Leopards away and give the Quakers their fourth win of the season (4-10). Archibong finished with 12 points while teammates Ugonna Onyekwe and Lamar Plummer had 22 and 20 points, respectively.
Co-captain Tim Bieg also finished in double digits for the Leopards with 12 points to go along with three assists and two steals. Mick Kuberka also had a solid game, shooting 4-of-5 from the field for nine points.
The Leopards remain at home to host Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Wednesday in the second game of a women and men's doubleheader at Kirby.
