HAMILTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Junior Beth Gulotta (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck), sophomore Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School), and sophomore Stephanie Goldman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) each chipped in a goal for Lafayette as the Leopards defeated Colgate 3-0 at Tyler's Field.
Gulotta put Lafayette on the board just 4:33 into the first half on a feed from Stone. Goldman, who also had two defensive saves in the game, scored the second Leopard goal 14:59 later.
Early in the second half, the Raiders could have easily been down 4-0, but two Lafayette goals were waived off in the game, one in each period.
Colgate finally got some momentum midway through the second stanza, when they received three straight penalty corner opportunities. During the rush that ensued, the Raiders managed six shots, with two by senior forward Kristine Thomas getting through to Leopards keeper Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional).
Those chances would be the only offense Colgate would be able to muster, and Stone would score the last goal of the game with 7:15 remaining on the clock.
Raider netminder Sara Corcoran made seven saves, while Cohen earned the shutout after making two stops. This marked the seventh time that Colgate has been shutout this year, setting a new single-season record.
The Raiders, who fall to 3-11 overall (1-4 in the Patriot League) will try their luck on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they host league rival Bucknell at 6 p.m. on Tyler's Field.
Lafayette (8-3, 3-1) hosts Delaware on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest.
