EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
In the wake of Tuesday's tragic events
in New York City, Washington D.C. and Somerset County, Pa., Lafayette has
cancelled or postponed all intercollegiate athletic events in which it was
scheduled to participate through Sunday, Sept. 16.
"This is the right decision for Lafayette to make out of respect, sympathy
and support for members of our community," said Lafayette President Arthur Rothkopf. "It is an
appropriate way for us to show our respect for those throughout the nation
who are so tragically affected by this week's unprecedented events."
"Lafayette has chosen to continue to hold classes because we believe this
is an appropriate forum for discussion as this national tragedy evolves,"
added Rothkopf. "We held a campus vigil on Tuesday evening and expect to
hold forums on campus to help students, faculty and staff deal with these
terrible events. We are fully supportive of our nation's leaders as they
seek to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy that has occurred."
The decision, which affects Saturday night's Lafayette at Princeton
football game and all other home and away contests this weekend, was made
by College leadership this morning.
While an attempt will be made to reschedule as many postponed events as
possible, no make-up dates have been announced at this time.
Those who hold tickets to Lafayette intercollegiate events affected by this
decision should hold onto those tickets and await further information
regarding refunds or exchanges involving rescheduling or cancellations.
