Lafayette Picks Apart Navy, 92-79

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Brian Burke had 18 points and matched his career-high with 11 assists Wednesday night, leading Lafayette to a 92-79 victory over Navy.

Lafayette (9-9, 3-2 Patriot League) shot 68 percent from the field (34-of-50) and never trailed in winning at Annapolis for the first time since 1999. The victory moves Lafayette into a tie for second place in the Patriot League.

The Leopards took a 17-4 lead in the first five minutes and still led 30-18 with 7:35 left in the half. However, Navy (8-12, 3-2) tied it 40-40 at halftime.

Lafayette dominated the early moments of the second half, and this time the Leopards protected their lead. Burke scored the first five points of the half as part of a 16-2 run that gave Lafayette a 56-42 lead with 15:28 remaining. Navy got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Kyle Barker had 23 points for Navy. He missed his only 2-point attempt but was 7-of-12 from 3-point range. His teammates were 0-fo-12 from 3-point range, and 14-of-40 overall.

Mike Farrell scored a career-high 22 points for Lafayette, which also got 17 from Justin DeBerry and 12 from Mick Kuberka.
