EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Great teams find ways to win. Great teams get the job done when they are having an off night. Lafayette field hockey did those things and more in their 3-0 win over Drexel on Tuesday night at Rappolt Field.

The Leopards (11-2), who were not as sharp on their home turf as usual, took advantage of opportunities in the first half to distance themselves from the visiting Dragons (7-4, 0-1), and tied a team and Patriot League record for consecutive wins with 11.

Who else but Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) got the Leopards on the board midway through the opening half, scoring off a picture perfect cross-field pass from Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School).

Stone found Monahan blazing past the Drexel defense and dished to the reigning Patriot League and ECAC Player of the Week, who found the back of the cage.

The Leopards have scored in bunches all season and two minutes later they held form as Stephanie Goldman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) swept a pass from Stone off the turf and to the top-shelf giving Lafayette a 2-0 advantage.

The goal was Goldman's second on the season.

With the lead, the Leopards' employed their bend but do not break defense, as Casey Devlin (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) was called upon to make eight saves on the evening, including a diving kick save early in the second half that thwarted any Drexel offensive momentum.

A vocal Lafayette head coach Ann Gold stalked the sidelines encouraging the Leopards to attack for another insurance goal, and the team delivered.

Melissa Hoh (Zionsville, Pa./ Upper Perkiomen) notched her second goal of the season with under a minute remaining, again off a pass from Stone.

Stone's three assists give her nine on the season and catapult the junior to the top of the Patriot League rankings in that category.

With their 11th win, Lafayette ties a Patriot League record for consecutive wins that was set in 1999 by the Leopards. The 1999 club finished 19-2, and was crowned Patriot League Champions at seasons end.

Lafayette enjoys a midseason break in the schedule before traveling to Delaware to do battle with the No. 17 ranked Blue Hens on October 15.
