Holy Cross Edges Lafayette In OT, 76-70

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Tim Szatko scored 23 points including the go-ahead basket in overtime as Holy Cross rallied to defeat Lafayette 76-70 on Wednesday.

Brian Burke scored 21 points for Lafayette (11-11, 5-4 Patriot League). Ryan Serravalle added 17 for Holy Cross (12-12, 6-3 Patriot League).

Burke scored back-to-back baskets to give Lafayette a 69-65 lead with 3:31 remaining in overtime. Holy Cross tied it at 70-70 on free-throws by Nate Lufkin and Serravalle before Szatko converted a reverse lay-up to give Holy Cross the lead for good.

There were five ties and six lead changes in the first half.

The Crusaders took a first-half 35-32 lead paced by the inside play of Lufkin. Lufkin finished with 11 points and 19 rebounds in the tense game and forced Lafayette into perimeter shooting throughout the second half.

Serravalle converted two free-throws to give Holy Cross a 62-58 lead with 2:27 left, but Justin DeBerry answered with a three-point field goal. After Whearty converted a free-throw, Lafayette's Mike Farrell scored the game tying field goal with 30 seconds left sending the game into overtime.

Holy Cross secured sole possession of second place in the Patriot League with the victory while Lafayette dropped into a tie for third place with Bucknell.

Lafayette returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9, when it starts a four-game homestand against Patriot League leader American (13-9, 7-2 Patriot League) at 3:15 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased right here at GoLeopards.com.
