WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team picked up its first league win of the season with an 8-4 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. Juniors Tim Derosier and Matt Prevost each scored two goals to lead the Leopard attack.
Derosier got Lafayette on the board first with 11:38 remaining in the first quarter. Holy Cross answered back just one minute later when junior Dave McWilliams scored an unassisted goal. The Leopards then scored two straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with 5:20 left in the second half. Lafayette pushed its lead to two goals right before the half when David Crean and Mike Fiorillo connected on a man-up tally.
The Leopards increased their lead to five goals with three unanswered scores to open the third quarter. Ted Blackburn started the Lafayette run 34 seconds into the third quarter. Prevost added the Leopards' second tally in the spurt while Derosier notched the third goal and put the game out of reach with 9:42 left in the third quarter.
The Crusaders pulled to within three on back-to-back goals from McGowan and Paul Washington, but that was as close as HC (1-10, 0-5) would get.
Lafayette (2-7, 1-4) returns to action on Tuesday at Villanova.
