PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Drexel scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to notch a 5-3 win over Lafayette in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Drexel jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning with four hits off of Lafayette starter Matt Tambellini. Braden Watson led off with a double to right and moved to third on a bunt single by Bruce Boehm. Watson scored on Ben Sniecinski's RBI-single. Two batters later, Boehm and Sniecinski scored on a double by Mike Francis, who was thrown out trying for third.
The Drexel lead did not last for long. Lafayette tied the game in the top of the fourth with three runs on three hits and two Drexel errors. With one out in the inning, Adam Rosenberg reached on an infield single. Rosenberg stole second and moved to third on an errant throw by the catcher. Jason Boyd plated Rosenberg with a double down the left field line. Craig Alexander (2-for-3) knocked in Boyd with a single to center field. Alexander later scored on a throwing error by Dragon starting pitcher Brett Hraban. Hraban, however, ended the Lafayette rally by striking out Jeff Rodgers.
Drexel scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Francis led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Francis scored on a Jason West single. Francis finished 2-for-2, including two RBI and two runs scored.
Drexel added another run in the seventh inning when Francis scored on a sac fly by West.
Hraban (2-2) went six innings, striking out five for the win, and Mike Lynch pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the season. Lafayette's Joe Saporetti (3-2), who was one of five pitchers used in the mid-week game, gave up one run in two innings and took the loss.
The game was called due to darkness after eight complete innings.
Lafayette (8-10) returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Wagner at 3 p.m. at Metzgar Field.
