DURHAM, N.H. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's soccer team opened the 2002 season with a 2-1 loss to host New Hampshire in the opening round of the Nike Fall Soccer Classic.
New Hampshire's Logan Lee netted a goal in the 53rd minute that proved to be the game-winner for the Wildcats. Lee took a serve from the right side of the box from Matt Glode and blasted a shot that bounced off the inside of the crossbar and past the goal line for the game-winner.
UNH took the early lead at 18:01 on a corner kick. Josh McGeachey served the ball from the right corner to the far side of the box where Brendan Hankard knocked it in to give UNH a 1-0 lead.
Lafayette tied the game with five and a half minutes left in the opening half. Ralph Rapuano pushed a soft header past the New Hampshire goalie for the equalizer. Jamie Mullarkey assisted on the tally.
Lafayette held a slight 11-10 edge in shots for the game. Leopard keeper Jay Freedman made two saves.
Both teams return to action in the second round of the Nike Fall Soccer Classic on Sunday . Lafayette takes on Vermont at 12:30 p.m. Vermont was a 2-0 winner over Adelphi in the afternoon's first contest.
