EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - For the first time since 1993 the Lafayette football program starts the season 2-0 following a 23-7 victory at Fisher Field. The Lafayette defense held Towson (1-1) to just one touchdown.

The Leopards stifled a Towson offense that posted 49 points and rolled up 494 yards of offense against Morgan State last week. Lafayette recovered two fumbles, picked off quarterback Jay Amer twice and sacked him twice. The Leopards last held an opponent to seven points in 1999 when they beat Fordham, 27-7.

The Leopards got on the board early. Freshman Dion Witherspoon forced and then recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff, giving the Leopards the ball at Towson's 20-yard line. Three plays later quarterback Marko Glavic found the end zone on a two-yard run to put Lafayette ahead 7-0 just 1:17 into the game.

Towson tied the game at 7-7 on Matt Romeo's 7-yard touchdown run with 3:21 left in the first quarter.

After a 30-yard field goal by Martin Brecht, Glavic connected with a streaking Jeremy Burkes on the right sideline for an 82-yard score to give the Leopards a 17-7 halftime advantage.

Brecht also booted kicks of 35 and 39 yards. His six field goal attempts breaks a Patriot League record most recently set by Georgetown in 2001.

Glavic finished the day 15-of-36 for 258 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Amer was 16-of-43 for 192 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Lafayette concludes its three-game home stretch on Sept. 21 against Penn at 1 p.m.
