EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to shutout Navy, 2-0, in a Patriot League contest on Saturday at Metzgar Fields.
Senior midfielder Matt Battiste (Niscayuna, N.Y./Niscayuna) scored his second goal of the season in the 66th minute off an assist from Nathan Jolly (Northumberland, England/Coquet), while Thomas Harju (Richardson, Tex./J.J. Pearce) netted his first career goal in the 88th minute.
The Leopards (7-4-2 overall, 2-1-1 Patriot League) dominated the match from the outset, outshooting Navy 14-2 and holding a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Jay Freedman (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow East) made two saves to record his first shutout of the season.
The win runs Lafayette's home unbeaten streak to 11.
The Leopards return to action next Saturday, visiting Holy Cross for a Patriot League contest at 2 p.m.
