Women's Lacrosse Falls to Holy Cross 8-6

April 19, 2003

Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette trailed 7-5 at intermission and could not muster any second half offense in a 8-6 loss to Patriot League opponent Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.

The Leopards (3-12, 2-4) matched Holy Cross on the offensive end early in the first half, and looked as if they had control after Erin Gallagher, Lindsey Calla and Kim Maron scored three straight times for a 5-2 Lafayette lead at the 11:38 mark.

The Crusaders fought back by controlling the possession and tempo and reeled off three straight scores of their own in a two-minute stretch. Justine Reeber, who scored the first three Holy Cross goals, connected at 7:49, and Katie Britt and Heather Bryce followed suit to knot the score at 5-5.

The teams traded a pair of scores inside the one-minute mark before Britt struck again for the Crusaders on a free position shot for a 7-5 edge with 17 seconds remaining before intermission.

Holy Cross opened the second half with a goal by Jen Tencati, and the Crusaders did a solid job of keeping possession on the Lafayette side of the field for a majority of the final 20 minutes.

Jill Marvin was able to find the net for Lafayette with 4:08 remaining, but Holy Cross senior netminder Kellaigh Malangone turned aside six-of-seven Leopard shots in the second half.

The Leopards finish Patriot League play at 2-4 and are eliminated from playoff contention. Lafayette returns to the field for its 2003 finale on Tuesday against Columbia at 7 p.m.
