PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Drexel opened the game with four straight goals and went on to defeat Lafayette, 8-4, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Drexel Field.
Jesse Rumble scored off a pass from Sean Moloney to put the Dragons on the board and then Mike Filippone took a Rumble pass to give Drexel a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
The Dragons continued to build their lead after Patrick Friel and Sean Metz each found the back of the net, stretching the score to 4-0 with 4:15 to play in the second quarter.
Luke Ryan scored the Leopards' first goal of the game to cut the lead to 4-1 at halftime.
Lafayette started the second half on a high note with two quick goals by Matt Parrott and Tim Derosier to climb within one at 4-3 with 11:12 to go in the third period.
Moloney took advantage of an extra-man opportunity to rebuild a two-goal cushion at 5-3 with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Less than a minute later, Matt Prevost answered for the Leopards to again close the gap to one, 5-4. Brendan Morgan finished the third quarter scoring with a Drexel goal to push the lead back to 6-4 after three periods.
Friel and Rumble each got their second goals of the game in the fourth quarter to cap the Drexel scoring.
Michael Koch turned in 11 saves for Lafayette in goal. Ryan Harney finished with 11 saves for Drexel and Patrick Walls made one save in five minutes of relief action for the Dragons.
Lafayette (2-11) closes out its season at Patriot League rival Army on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
