WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette and Holy Cross combined for just four shots in a scoreless first half, but the Crusaders put three goals on the scoreboard after intermission to claim a 3-0 win in Patriot League field hockey on Saturday afternoon.
Holy Cross (7-4, 3-2 PL) recorded 13 shots and earned five penalty corners in the second half, and Susie Whelan scored the game's first goal with a little more than 25 minutes remaining in the match.
Jenna Cook gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead with 11 minutes left, while Laura Cohen completed the scoring on a pass from Tara Welch with seven seconds remaining.
Sophomore Jill Lambert made eight saves in goal for Lafayette (4-11, 1-3 PL). Sony Kuhn posted four saves and was credited with the shutout for Holy Cross.
Senior Missy Farrand was credited with three of the Leopards' four shots on goal.
American, Colgate and Holy Cross have all earned spots in the Patriot League championships. Lafayette, Bucknell and Lehigh are fighting for the final berth. The Leopards will play their final league match of the season on Wednesday night at Lehigh.
