WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette women's lacrosse team fell to American 17-3 in Patriot League action on Saturday. The loss was the first to the Eagles in four meetings between the teams.
American's Tara Michael scored two goals early in the first half before Lafayette's Lauren Ricca got the Leopards on the board at 23:15.
The Eagles then scored seven unanswered goals to end the first half ahead, 9-1.
American continued their assault in the second half, finding the back of the net seven more times before Lafayette's Jill Marvin hit an unassisted shot with 11:26 remaining in the game. The Eagles Moriah Linnell scored her fourth of the day with 8:22 on the clock to end American's scoring.
Marvin was able to record her second goal of the day at 4:24, an unassisted shot past American goalkeeper Sarah Mackintosh.
Linnell's four goals and one assist led American. Michael also scored four times for the Eagles, while Rebecca Copeland added a hat trick. In goal, Mackintosh and Kathleen Finnegan combined to make six saves for American (4-4, 3-0).
Marvin led the Leopards with her two goals as well as two draw controls. Fallon Cunningham added two groundball pick-ups and two caused turnovers, while Samantha Ziegler added two caused turnovers for Lafayette. Jaclyn Kushner and Stephanie Marcon combined in the net to make six saves for the Leopards.
Lafayette (2-6, 1-2) will continue its five game road stretch with a non-conference contest against Old Dominion on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
