POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette men's lacrosse team held a 4-2 lead at halftime, but Marist scored seven unanswered goals to start the second half to rally to a 9-5 non-conference win on Tuesday.
Senior Robert McLean scored two goals in the first quarter, giving the Leopards a 2-0 lead at the end of one. McLean's first tally came at 6:26 off a Bart Seifert assist, while the second, an unassisted shot, came as time expired.
Marist's Brian Diele got the Red Foxes on the board at 9:17 of the second quarter. The two teams then exchanged goals, with Lafayette recording their third and fourth of the day at 8:08 from Matt Lukof and at 3:35 as Andrew Forbes found the back of the net to put the Leopards up at the break.
Returning from halftime, Marist exploded with five third period goals, including two by Sean Sweeney. The Red Foxes scored two more times in the fourth quarter before Lukof was able to get his second tally of the day off a Seifert assist with 44 seconds remaining.
Michael Koch made six saves in the net for the Leopards, while Steve Gravino and Shane Brennan combined to make nine stops for Marist.
Lafayette (1-11, 0-4) will be back in action on Friday, April 16 as they travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Patriot League opponent Holy Cross at 3 p.m.
