Lafayette Men's Lacrosse Defeats Holy Cross, 6-3

WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette men's lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross 6-3 to claim its first Patriot League victory of the season on Friday afternoon.

The Crusaders got on the board first, scoring on an unassisted shot by Paul LeBlanc at 6:54. Lafayette then responded with two goals of their own, both unassisted shots by Trevor Ortolano at 5:06 and Drew Weisman with just 41 seconds remaining.

Holy Cross started off the second quarter the same way, tying the game on a Michale Moriarty goal at 10:38. Lafayette would score the go ahead goal with just 51 seconds on the clock on a Robert McLean to Bart Seifert connection.

The Leopards came out of the halftime break running, with Brendan Heck scoring on an unassisted shot with 13:03 on the clock. Seifert answered with his second goal of the day at 9:45 before Moriarty scored his second for the Crusaders with 25 seconds remaining.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter until Ortolano found McLean at 2:40 to ensure Lafayette the win.

Goalkeeper Michael Koch made 17 saves in the net for the Leopards, while Holy Cross netminder Brian Hodgdon turned away 15 shots for the Crusaders.

Lafayette (2-11, 1-5) will be back in action on Saturday, April 24 as they host the final regular season game of 2004 against archrival Lehigh. Face off is set for 7 p.m. at Rappolt Field.
