NEW YORK, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) -Despite a hat trick by Jill Marvin, the Lafayette women's lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Columbia 15-5 on Tuesday evening.
The Lions scored four goals within two minutes before Lafayette could get on the board on Marvin's first tally of the day at 10:43 on a free position shot. Columbia then racked up four more goals to put the Lions up 8-1 before Marvin could find the back of the net once again before halftime on an unassisted shot at 27:30.
Columbia scored the first goal of the second half just two minutes into play and proceeded to score six more times in the stanza.
Lafayette's Emily Allen broke the scoring drought for the Leopards in the 52nd minute of play on a Katie Curtin assist. It was Allen's first collegiate point.
Marvin connected on her third and final shot of the day at 54:05 on another free position shot. Samantha Ziegler capitalized on a free position shot of her own with a minute left to play to end the scoring.
Goalkeeper Jaclyn Kushner made 12 saves in the net for the Leopards, while Columbia's Marcela Calidonio and Sydney Linder combined to make eight saves for the Lions.
Lafayette (3-12) will be back in action on Friday, April 23 as they face Patriot League foe Villanova in the home closer at 7 p.m. on Rappolt Field.
