EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette head football coach Frank Tavani has announced the addition of three assistants to the Leopard coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Josh Carter and Chris Jones join the Leopard staff as offensive assistants, while Greg Roskos will be serving as a defensive assistant.
"We're happy to complete the coaching staff with the addition of these three coaches," Tavani said. "Each of them bring impressive credentials and a wealth of knowledge and are great additions to our staff."
Carter's duties as offensive assistant include working with the Leopards' receiving corps. He comes to Lafayette from Muhlenberg, where he spent the 2003 season coaching defensive backs. Carter also served as the pitching coach for the Mules' baseball squad during the spring.
Carter was a four-year letterman in both football and baseball at Muhlenberg, captaining both teams as a senior. On the gridiron, he was a three-time All-American as a return specialist and was the 2000 Centennial Conference Player of the Year. Carter earned All-Centennial Conference honors as both a receiver and returner and holds 24 school records, as well as the NCAA Division III record for single-season kickoff return yardage.
Carter graduated from Muhlenberg in 2002 with a degree in Business Administration. He spent the summer of 2002 playing centerfield for the Allentown Ambassadors of the independent Northern League. He began his coaching career at Rye Country Day School, coaching football, basketball and baseball at both the high school and middle school level during the 2002-03 school year before returning to Muhlenberg.
Jones, who will lend his expertise with the offensive line and tight ends, arrives on College Hill with 10 years of high school coaching experience. He spent the past three seasons as the offensive and defensive line coach at Notre Dame Green Pond High School. His most recent stint at Notre Dame was his second; after serving as a student assistant at Bloomsburg in the spring of 1993, Jones became the offensive and defensive line coach at Notre Dame for the 1993 season. He was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
Jones spent the 1997-2000 seasons at Saucon Valley High School, serving as the offensive and defensive line coach as well as special teams coordinator.
Jones graduated from Bloomsburg in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. At Bloomsburg, Jones was a four-year letterman and four-year All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First-Team selection as a center. As a senior, he was team captain and a Kodak Division II All-American.
Roskos, who will spend most of his time with the Leopards' secondary, comes to Lafayette after spending last season as a defensive assistant at Muhlenberg. Roskos assisted with the linebackers and defensive ends while also serving as the team's video coordinator. His recruiting territories included parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as all of New England.
Roskos is a 2002 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration. He was a four-year letterman at Bloomsburg and two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honoree. He helped the Huskies to a pair of PSAC championships and NCAA Division II playoff appearances and was named defensive MVP of the 2000 team that advanced to the national championship game.
Roskos spent the 2002 season as a student assistant at Bloomsburg, helping in all aspects of game preparation as Bloomsburg claimed its third straight PSAC title.
Lafayette opens the 2004 season at home against Marist on Sept. 4. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Fisher Field.
