EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette field hockey team dominated in each facet of the game, except for on the scoreboard, and dropped a tough 2-1 overtime match to Davidson on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.
Lafayette (2-2) outshot the Wildcats 32-7, and earned 22 penalty corners, but Davidson goalkeeper Sarah Nolan, the 2003 NorPac Defensive Player of the Year, was up to the challenge and made 14 saves to keep her team in the game.
Despite the huge edge in shots and corners, the Leopards didn't score until Amanda Eggleston converted on a pass from Kasey Gallagher with 13 minutes remaining, which knotted the score at 1-1.
Davidson (1-2) went ahead 1-0 15 minutes into the match when Tiffany Homan assisted on a goal by Eleanor Cowley. Nolan withstood Lafayette's onslaught of pressure on the goal, including 20 shots and 14 corners in the second half, until Eggleston broke through.
Kayli Maxwell netted the game-winner 11:40 into the first overtime period to give Davidson its first win of the year.
Eggleston led Lafayette with 11 shots and scored her second goal of the year. Gallagher, Maggie DeFilippo and Laura Fabian each got off four shots.
Gallagher has assisted on a goal in each of Lafayette's first four matches. Both of the Leopards' losses this season have come in overtime.
