Lafayette Field Hockey falls to Penn, 1-0

Sept. 14, 2004

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - An early first half goal by Kristen Gray was all the scoring Penn would get, but goalkeeper Liz Schlossberg made it stand up as the Quakers defeated Lafayette, 1-0, on Tuesday evening at Rappolt Field.

Freshman forward Laura Fabian put a shot on goal in the first minute of the match, but Lafayette (2-3) wasn't able to generate much offense until the Leopards earned a pair penalty corners as the first half expired.

Penn (2-3) recorded eight shots in the first half, and got on the board when Kristen Gray scored her second goal of the season off a penalty corner to give Penn a 1-0 lead. Sara Shelly and Cara Calahan assisted on the play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Lambert played her best match of the season, making five saves for the Leopards. Schlossberg made three saves for the Quakers to earn the shutout.

Junior midfielder Kasey Gallagher made a fine defensive save with seven minutes remaining as the ball slid through the circle, but Lafayette cleared to hold the deficit at 1-0.

Lafayette was unable to create offensive chances in the last few minutes, however, and Penn earned the win to stop a three-game losing streak against the Leopards.

The match was televised Tuesday night by the Lafayette Sports Network on RCN-4, and will rebroadcast on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Lafayette-Penn will air to a national audience on College Sports TV on Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Lafayette travels to State College on Friday, Sept. 17 for a 7 p.m. match with nationally-ranked Penn State.
