PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Drexel jumped to an 8-0 first-half lead en route to an 11-3 win over Lafayette in the Leopards' men's lacrosse season-opener on Saturday.
Three different players found the back of the net for Lafayette, while Drexel had four players score two goals apiece. Sean Moloney led the Dragons with a pair of goals and three assists.
A 5-0 Drexel lead became 8-0 at intermission after the Dragons (1-1) scored three times in the final 2:00 of the first half, including twice in the final nine seconds.
Freshman Jon Paulson got Lafayette (0-1) on the board 2:27 into the third quarter off an assist from Keon West. Paulson then assisted on a Bart Seifert goal later in the quarter.
Sean Burek collected Lafayette's third goal, scoring off a Matt Lukof assist midway through the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Chris Rosa made nine saves in his first career start in goal for Lafayette. Freshman Ryan Caso took over for the final 23:19 and collected eight saves.
Bryan Maggio made 11 saves, 10 in the first half, to earn the win for Drexel.
The Dragons held a 46-22 edge in shots and won 11-of-16 face-offs.
Lafayette heads west next weekend, taking on Denver and Air Force, in Denver, on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
