LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Bucknell won both games of a doubleheader on Sunday, beating Lafayette 3-0 and 7-2 to sweep the season series. In game one, Lafayette was held scoreless despite a 3-for-3 effort from Mike Raible. In the nightcap, Lafayette managed to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth, before Bucknell scored five runs in the seventh to put the game away.

In the first game of the twinbill, Lafayette (15-23, 3-9) could not get its bats going, managing to pound out just six hits in seven innings against Bison hurler Nathan Mittag. Mittag (1-4) threw all seven innings of the shutout win.

Bucknell (14-22, 8-8) scored a lone run in the first, second and fifth innings of the seven-inning contest. Brian Day singled in the run in the first, Ryan Gryskevicz scampered home on a wild pitch in the third and Kyle Walter knocked in a baserunner in the fifth, and that proved to be plenty of offense.

Raible was the bright spot for the Leopard offense in the opener, pounding out a 3-for-3 day, all singles. There were no extra-base hits by either team in the game and just one extra-base hit the entire afternoon.

Sophomore Ted Gjeldum (3-2) tossed 4.1 innings while taking the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out three.

In game two, the Leopards managed a pair of runs in fifth inning, but Bucknell responded with five runs in the seventh inning to pull away to a 7-2 victory.

Bucknell again opened the scoring in the game by putting up two runs in the first inning, one on a passed ball and the other on Chris Brannan's two-out single.

The Bison held the lead until the fifth inning, when the Lafayette offense finally broke through against Bucknell starter Gryskevicz. With two outs in the inning, sophomore Frank Cortazar extended the frame with a single. Dave Drechsel and James Conrad each followed with singles. Conrad's base knock plated Cortazar. Senior Rob Fioretti kept the rally going with another single and that brought Drechsel around to tie the game 2-2.

Bucknell closed the door in the game in the seventh inning, cranking out five runs to take a 7-2 lead. Matt Capece, Walter, Brannan and Jason Buursma (2 RBI) all singled in runs. Walter's RBI-single knocked Lafayette starter Tom Phelan (1-3) from the game. He allowed five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts over 6.1 innings in the loss. Kevin Reese and John Fugett finished out the inning.

Gryskevicz (2-1) collected the mound victory, scattering eight hits in eight innings. Ian Rainey threw the ninth inning and retired the Lafayette lineup in order.

Lafayette will host Rutgers on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Class of 1978 Stadium. The game will be televised by the Lafayette Sports Network on Wednesday at 9 p.m. and re-shown on CSTV on May 2 at 7 p.m.
