LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette track and field teams returned to College Hill with 19 top five finishes at Bucknell's Bison Open held on Friday and Saturday. Junior Tyler Jones captured both the shot put and weight throw for the men, while the women enjoyed particular success in the track and multi events.
Jones' 51'6 ¼" and 54' 4 ¼" in the shot and weight throws, respectively, earned the previous IC4A qualifier gold in both events. Rookie Adam Jones took second in the triple jump of 43' 7 ¾", notching his top performance of the year.
On the track, another junior pulled through with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash as Travis Hutson finished in 7.12. In the same event, Lafayette's Vanessa Youngs and Kisha Thomas captured third (8.01) and fourth (8.04), respectively. Youngs also took third in the 200-meter event, crossing the finish line in 26.55. Another pair of ladies came in back-to-back in the 500-meter run, as Cassandra Bradley and Mary Rollyson brought home third (1:25.11) and fourth (1:25.37), respectively.
Lafayette's women placed three in the top 10 of the shot put, led by sophomore Pamela Glennon (40' 11"). Placing fifth and eighth were Andrea Cerbie (39' 4") and Vicky Melroy (38'4 ¼"). Cerbie also came in fifth in the weight throw with a 49' ¾" heave.
During Friday's events, freshman Jessica Buzzel earned 3166 points in the pentathlon, which earned her fourth, while teammate Leigh Kalinowski took fifth with 2962 points. For the men, Daniel Sheehan enjoyed a solid opening day of action with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85).
The Leopards are back in action this weekend at the New Balance Armory Invitational on Friday and Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. in New York City.
