EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards (4-9, 1-2) lost 8-0 in their third Patriot League match against No. 16 American (11-4, 3-0) Saturday afternoon. Lafayette takes a break from conference action, hosting Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Maroon and White came out strong to start the game, but after American scored the first goal at 3:24 the momentum shifted to the Eagles. Lafayette was unable to recover and the team was only able to get three shots away in the game.
Senior Courtney Dixon made three saves after coming in the cage after intermission for freshman Kelsey Andersen. Andersen started for the Leopards and made one save on eight shots.
"We came out strong, but did not show a lot of resilience once American scored on us. American is a good team with good fundamentals," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "It is disappointing that this is the first game this season that we were not in it at the end of it. We need to improve our defense and create more opportunities when we have possession within the opposition's 25-yard."
The Leopards continue in field hockey action this weekend, hosting Georgetown on Sunday for a 1 p.m. non-conference match on Rappolt Field.
