EASTON, Pa. - Colgate tailback Jordan Scott carried the ball 44 times for 194 yards and four touchdowns as the Raiders handed Lafayette a 36-27 loss on Saturday at Fisher Stadium.

The Leopards trailed 29-21 with 1:37 left in the game when Tim Watson returned Colgate's kickoff 27 yards to put the Leopards on their own 40-yard line. Sophomore Rob Curley, who got the start at quarterback, drove the ball 53 yards before throwing a seven-yard touchdown pass to junior Shaun Adair. The scoring strike with 49 seconds left in the game cut the Colgate lead to 29-27.

On Lafayette's two-point conversion try, Curley was sacked, preserving the Raiders' lead. The Leopards tried an onsides kick which Colgate wide receiver Pat Simonds returned for a 38-yard touchdown, and 36-27 victory.

"You can either lie down and quit or you can get up for another day," Lafayette head coach Frank Tavani of the team's loss. "We're going to finish out the season and restore our own pride."

On the first drive of the game, Lafayette (4-4, 1-2) moved the ball 66 yards to put the Leopards in field goal range. Freshman Davis Rodriguez missed wide left, but a penalty for roughing the kicker gave Lafayette a first down on the Colgate five-yard line. Sophomore Matt Ferber rushed for one yard and senior Kevin Logan caught a four-yard pass from Curley to put the Leopards up 7-0 seven minutes into the game.

Colgate (5-3, 2-1) took over at its own 38-yard line on the second drive. Mike Buck booted a 30-yard field goal to start the second quarter. On the subsequent possession, Lafayette was in a second-and-one situation on the Colgate 49-yard line when Curley pulled off a 49-yard quarterback sneak to score the team's second touchdown. Curley initially earned the first-down yardage and then bounced outside the tackle to break away for the touchdown, making it 14-3 with eleven minutes to go in the second quarter.

In the final minutes of the first half, senior free safety Marcel Quarterman intercepted a pass from Colgate quarterback Alex Relph at the 48-yard line and ran it back 40 yards to the Colgate 12, his second interception of the season. Curley hooked up with Adair on an 11-yard pass to widen the scoring margin to 21-3 with six minutes remaining in the quarter.

Colgate's offense took over right before halftime. Jordan Scott scored the first of his four touchdowns on a four-yard run with three minutes left in the second quarter. He scored two more unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter off of runs of one and nine yards.

The fourth quarter was quiet until Scott punched in his fourth touchdown of the day on a seven-yard run to cap off a 10-play, 87-yard drive with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth.

Curley went 16-for-25 for 174 yards and three touchdowns against the Raiders. He also carried the ball 10 times for 61 yards to lead the Leopards in rushing.

Andy Romans led the Leopards' defensive effort for the fourth time this season with 16 tackles and one forced fumble. Nigel Bryant and Nick Oliver both had 11 tackles, and Oliver recovered a fumble.

The Leopards will host Bucknell on Saturday for the team's final home game. Lafayette's 20 seniors will be honored prior to the game. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
